I know there is an ongoing debate about whether you should fork up the money and do a preparatory course or just buy the books and study on your own. I personally went with doing a prep course. I'm currently studying with Prep 101 and find it very beneficial.
I would suggest going with a prep company if you (like me) wouldn't be able to dedicate time every day to study for the MCAT. I know I need a schedule to follow so a prep company was necessary for me. I've also found that the teachers are able to give you valuable insight about the MCAT that you wouldn't have been able to receive unless you were in the course.
It's a pain to have to go to a lecture hall for the classes and sometimes the information seems really rushed but I have noticed an increase in my scaled MCAT score by six points in our simulated tests. If you know about the MCAT scaling system you know what a big deal this is.
Ultimately it is up to you to decide what route to take in order to prepare for the MCAT and either way is MUCH BETTER than not preparing.
